Is LinkedIn a New Dating Site?

Like most people looking to land the perfect job, LinkedIn is one of the most used sites to get yourself noticed by employers, networking with others to put in a good word, and surprisingly, you can even find love on LinkedIn. Just last week I was looking at a post and this lovely couple announced their wedding. To my surprise, he revealed that they met right on LinkedIn.

The issue with posts like this is that they are so inspiring, and you are just genuinely happy for others you leave a nice congratulatory comment. Within a matter of minutes my notifications are raking up and its all of men from Ghana. Apparently these men may be thinking that they’ll have the same experience as the young, newly weds. Sorry, but I only use LinkedIn for its general purpose and that is for networking and possibly finding a job. To be honest, I really don’t need LinkedIn because I have a great teaching job.

It is so baffling that some men and women would utilize a site such as LinkedIn for meeting potential mates. Not to knock these individuals down, but assuming that you’ll get a response back from someone you don’t know and neither of you live in the same area, let alone not even the same state its just so… bonkers. To be frank, it would be nice to meet someone that I have prayed to God about instead of meeting some random guy. I didn’t know what to say to those messages so I just ignored them. Its easier to ignore the messages.

It’s not easy to just put yourself out there in hopes you’ll find a potential suiter. For those that have done so I tip my hat off to you. It’s just I have standards and expectations when it comes to the man I hope to marry someday. I would need for us to have important things in common. I’ve been down one bad road and I don’t want to go back to it.

As far as LinkedIn goes, I may just have to part ways. I don’t want another crazy encounter.
